Hello, thank you for this video it was so helpful to me I am redoing my steps. and they look exactly like yours I just pulled the carpet off, and I don't want to do anything to time consuming with my steps I just want to get the dried paint off, and tidy them up, because I want to paint them black, and put stair treads, or runner on. My question is do I have to sand them, or can I simply clean then off as I mentioned, and paint them with a paint with primer already in it? thank you so much in advance!!

I've been watching a few of these and you are the first one to mention a spray bottle of water. The use of the four inch knife was helpful too. I hired The Patch Boys in Jacksonville, FL. They did a half a$$ed job on my bathroom. It seems they did the whole ceiling with hot mud and maybe only a four inch knife. I don't know because I wasn't home but that is what the Spanish guy was using when I got home. I KNOW for a fact that they didn't sand the ceiling or do any special prep prior to dabbing hot mud over the entire ceiling. They came and went in one day. This job should have taken days. They got $1,300 from me. I got RIPPED OFF. I am going to do the bathroom myself now but I will leave the ceiling and hopefully it will work out. I'm 59 and arthritic and it is painful to my neck, shoulders and so on to be in some positions, like looking and trying to work on a ceiling. I can handle the walls, I guess. This project terrifies me and I have so much DREAD. If I had known my bathroom needed a "SKIM COAT", I could have researched it and CALLED the BLUFF of the company that ripped me off. I don't think it is routine to skim coat over obvious mildew and chipped paint. I wish I had been here to see just what they did.

My wife just threw a hammer into into my finished skim coated wall. while running out of the trailer I asked her how it looked.

I found your channel through the drywall skim coating. You guys make great videos! I've been remodeling my master bathroom after a nasty overflow, FYI Using the blue toilet cleaner tabs in the tank and it spilling onto a carpet does NOT mix! Why the original owners had carpet in the bathroom, baffles me. I'm sorry, don't take this the wrong way, but the way you said "not so prettay" had me lmao. I've watched a few of your videos and never heard that before lol. Keep up the good work!

You saved my life with this video. I've been using the wrong grit paper by far based on other videos. Just ordered a carbide scraper as well. I've been sanding with 60 grit without carbie scraper and I've barely made a dent.

my problem with this is that wall is perfectly smooth already there was no need for this.

Refinishing stairs is an annoying job. I use a 3” grinder pad on a small battery operated grinder for edges and corners.. speeds up the edging a lot on the risers.
